Holly Hunter, an American actor and producer, is well-known for her stellar roles in movies such as Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. Her film Piano won her an Oscar. The talented actress began her career in acting in the theatre with an array of Broadway and Off-Broadway projects. From the time she was a child she's always been enthusiastic about performing. She played Helen Keller as a fifth-grade pupil in a school performance. The actress was deaf in one ear following a bout of the mumps virus, however she did not let this disability dampen her determination to become an actress. In college she studied theatre and then moved from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to New York City in pursuit of her dreams. She was introduced to Beth Henley in an elevator and the pair collaborated in Broadway Crimes of the Heart the first movie Hunter made. When she moved to Los Angeles, Hunter tried to get films to play. The role of a supporting actress was found in Swing Shift. Since then, she has appeared in several television series, films and movies over the course of a 30-year career. Holly Hunter received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and she also received an award called the Women in Film Lucy Award.
