Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is an unassuming community which is situated in the West Island, which is part of Montreal's island. In reality, the West Island, to those who don't know about it, is a large section that extends from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time there was short. Brugel grew in Courtice in the town of Oshawa. Her first ambition was to dance but the growth rate of her body meant she grew beyond the dancers she was with. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed that she was at 6'1 inches tall. When I outgrew my male partners I stopped. The majority of dancers who have been ex-dancers now turn to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a nudge from one of her drama teachers at the high school that pushed her into the right direction. The teacher suggested that she pursue a role for the school's annual production. She tried out and eventually got the leading role in Anne of Green Gables. This led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned an Associate of Fine Arts degree in 2000. For the last two decades, Brugel's career has seen her appear in over 60 movies and TV productions. Her most notable role was the one of Rita (shown in the video below) in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor for Season 1 of the series. She was rarely seen.
